Nothing is re-encoded
Merging copies the page objects from each document into a new one. Text stays selectable, images keep their original quality, and vector graphics stay vector — nothing is flattened into a picture.
The result is a normal PDF that opens in any reader.
Why merging in the browser is a privacy question
The documents people most often merge — contracts, invoices, medical letters, passport scans for a visa application — are exactly the ones you would least like sitting on someone else's server.
Here they never get there. The files are read into memory, combined, and handed back as a download.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my PDFs uploaded to merge them?
- No. The document is opened and edited by code running in your browser, and the new PDF is generated on your device. There is no upload endpoint in this application — you can watch the network tab while you work.
- How many PDFs can I merge at once?
- There is no imposed limit. The practical ceiling is your device's memory — merging a few dozen ordinary documents is comfortable on a normal laptop.
- Can I choose the order?
- Yes. Move any file up or down before merging, and remove any you added by mistake.
- Does merging reduce quality?
- No. Pages are copied as-is, without re-encoding anything.
- Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
- No. Encrypted PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the password first in whatever created the file.
