Why PNG for documents

PNG stores every pixel exactly. Text edges, table rules and thin lines stay crisp, with none of the halo artefacts JPG produces around high-contrast edges.

The trade-off is size: a page of text as PNG can be several times the size of the same page as JPG. For photographic pages, JPG is the better choice.
