How to resize an image

Why we do not upscale

Asking for dimensions larger than the original is capped at the original size. Enlarging cannot invent detail that was never captured — it only produces a blurrier, heavier file that looks worse than the source.

If you genuinely need a bigger image, go back to the original capture or export at a higher resolution from whatever produced it.

Common target sizes

  • 1920 × 1080 — full-screen backgrounds and desktop hero images.
  • 1200 px wide — a safe maximum for blog and article images.
  • 1080 × 1080 — square social posts.
  • 600 px wide — email newsletters, where large images are often stripped or slow.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded when I resize it?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly and canvas APIs, so the image data never leaves your device. There is no upload endpoint in this application at all — you can watch the network tab while you convert.
How do I keep the proportions?
Leave Keep aspect ratio ticked and fill in just one dimension — the other is calculated for you. Untick it only when you deliberately want to stretch the image.
Can I resize and change the format at the same time?
Yes. Choose the output format and set the resize options before pressing the button; both are applied in one pass.
Will resizing make the file smaller?
Almost always, and usually by a lot — halving the width and height quarters the pixel count. Resizing is often the single most effective way to shrink an image.
